I have been online and in business, in some shape or form, for some 16 years. I have seen the Internet grow from a few hundred thousand webpages to an exponentially huge global resource with an equally infinite potential to change the lives of everyone on the planet. During that time, it has become my determination to be part of that life-changing process through helping others benefit from the amazing resources available.
I’ve never wanted to work for anyone else. I set up my first business while still at university doing languages and business, which, with a heavy dose of grassroots culture and a resulting love of travel (or is it vice versa?!), remains my greatest love besides my daughter.
That business was not a huge commercial success but it led to some interesting times, including co-writing a book on international corporate governance and lecturing in South Africa. Through this I developed and nurtured my passion for ethical business and soon discovered my raison d’etre was not only to become financially independent but to help others, especially in Africa, to be so too.
A meandering path ensues twixt then and now. From consultancy (working with large corporates confirmed my dislike of that culture while helping me understand it) through spending several million pounds building a revolutionary online financial services portal that ultimately is still ahead of its time (and behind on marketing); to going back to small business, and I now spend my time helping them to make the most out of the Internet.
I love the thrill of meeting new people (on and offline) and their ideas, the passion for what they do, which I complement with my own and inject fresh ideas into the mix. Through my imustard.com business I have a now mainly outsourced team in various parts of the world which gives me access to a huge wealth of skills, technology and experience to fulfill the most challenging business requirements.
I am also working increasingly on third party platforms which need little or no technical input at all, meaning I can focus more on other things, since I’m not naturally technical (though I do use a small part of the left brain which likes the problem solving nature of software development).
This means, amongst other things that I’m finally starting to write again, hence this blog site. My love of culture and languages will be the focus. I will also be launching a new elearning site with some wonderful partners in the near future.
Whether in business or personally, with me you get integrity and a genuine desire to help. I intend to use this platform to do just that and I hope it bears fruit.
If you would like my help, advice or just would like to connect with me, please get in touch – I would love to hear from you!
Arthur
